WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – Thanks to a sizzling final-round performance, Fireballs GC claimed points for a fifth-place finish at LIV Golf Greenbrier.

It was the team’s best result in the last five tournaments.

The Fireballs had started the final round in ninth place after 36 holes. But with Captain Sergio Garcia leading the way with a 7-under 63, flanked by 64s from Carlos Ortiz and Eugenio Chacarra, the Fireballs posted a counting score of 19 under on Sunday for the team’s best counting score of the season.

Add the 4-under 66 by Abraham Ancer, whose score didn’t count, and the Fireballs shot a collective 23 under across the entire lineup in the final round.

Overall, the Fireballs finished at 38 under for the three rounds of counting scores, and are now sixth in the season-long team standings at 79 points.

Here’s a recap of the Fireballs’ individual performances at LIV Golf Greenbrier:

CARLOS ORTIZ (-13, 7th place)

With three impressive rounds of 66-67-64, Ortiz had his best result since reaching the playoff in Tucson in the second tournament of the season.

Ortiz’s 19 birdies tied for second-most in the field.

With the seventh-place points finish, Ortiz moved to 13th in the season-long individual standings, the highest-ranking Fireballs player.

SERGIO GARCIA (-12, 12th place)

The Fireballs captained opened the tournament with consecutive bogeys on his first two holes. In his next 52 holes, he suffered just one bogey while posting 15 birdies.

Garcia’s 12th place was his second top-12 finish in his last three tournaments. He’s now 16th in the season-long standings.

ABRAHAM ANCER (-10, 21st place)

Ancer had a productive weekend after opening with an even-par 70, as he shot a collective 10 under, continuing an upward trend in recent weeks.

Ancer led the field by hitting 38 fairways over the three rounds, three better than Garcia, who was second in that category.

Ancer has now claimed points in the last three starts.

EUGENIO CHACARRA (-8, 25th place)

Chacarra’s 6-under 64 in the final round included a vital stretch of three consecutive birdies late in his round that helped the Fireballs make a late move up the team leaderboard.

Although Chacarra finished just outside the top 24 for points, his 25th finish was his best result in his last three tournaments.
