Fireballs lose Bynder

MIAMI – Fireballs GC pushed RangeGoats GC to the limit during Saturday’s semifinals of the LIV Golf Team Championship but ultimately were knocked out of the top tier with a 2-1 loss at the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral.

Captain Sergio Garcia beat Bubba Watson, 4 & 3. Garcia never trailed after winning the first two holes and opened up the margin with three late birdies.

Eugenio Chacarra, playing the other singles match, pushed Individual Champion Talor Gooch before losing, 2 up. Gooch had to rallied to win the final three holes with a birdie and two pars.

“He put up a great fight,” Gooch said. “It was a dogfight.”

Thomas Pieters/Harold Varner III of the RangeGoats defeated Abraham Ancer/Carlos Ortiz (Fireballs), 2 & 1. The RangeGoats duo was 4 up after eight holes and held off a late surge from the Fireballs.

The Fireballs will now play in tier 2 in Sunday’s finals for positions 5 through 8 on the final leaderboard.
